Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the
Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met on Tuesday Josef Markus Wuketich,
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Austria to Ukraine
on His Request in the Connection with the Termination of the Diplomatic Mission
in Ukraine.
In the course of the meeting the Parties discussed the issues connected with the preparation of the official visit of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to Vienna that is planed on September of the current year.
Mr. Wuketich characterized Ukrainian-Austrian relations on the political level as "very efficient" and stated that Ukraine and Austria are strategic partners. J.-M. Wuketich named the visit of V. Lytvyn very important for both states and expressed hope that the planned meetings would facilitate the better mutual understanding if the processes that took place in Ukraine and Austria. "I am convinced that the visit shall be successful and it shall improve our understanding of world situation. We are supposed to be aware of the necessity of the cooperating strengthening in the interests of our states", Mr. Ambassador declared.
V. Lytvyn emphasised
that Ukraine
expects the strengthening of the parliamentary component of the bilateral relations
and commencement of the systemic contacts as, according to him, during last
years there was "certain pause" in the parliamentary relations. He is convinced
that the legislative bodies of our states "would have direct and frank dialogue" thus, it would
be a great stimulus for the executive power of both states to implement
existing potential of bilateral relations, in economic sphere, in particular.
According to the Head of the Parliament, in the course of the visit it is necessary "to make everything possible to prove with the held of the meetings the Austrian support to Ukraine." "It is extremely necessary for us to develop contacts with the European community and the world, provide mutual assistance. Today it is impossible to resist the global challenges alone", V. Lytvyn indicated.
The Parties also discussed the issues on the preparation for the European Football Championship 2012. Mr. Ambassador announced that the meeting of mayor of Vienna city with the Minister of Ukraine of Youth Policy and Sport and mayor of the cities that are going to accept the football championship is planned now.
J.-M. Wuketich declared that Ukrainian-Austrian Commission on Trade-Economic Cooperation Matters resolved to form the working group on preparation for Euro 2012.
The chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed gratitude for the Ambassador for his work in the course of the diplomatic mission in Ukraine and expressed hope that this period was extremely important for both states.
